German pop outfit, Timid Tiger, brings simple and warm melodies for the summertime with their latest, The Streets are Black. Lead vocalist and guitarist Keshav Purushotham charms with playful raps and vocals about passing youth (“Hangin’ In the Sand”, “Love Like You’ve Never Been Hurt”), on societal ills (“The Sun Goes Down, The Streets are Black”), the transition of growing older and distant (“Astronaut”). The success of the songs seems to be the band’s willingness to use 60’s and 70’s colorings in the melodies without being completely retro. Perhaps the streets (and more venues) in the U.S. will light up for Timid Tiger and The Streets Are Black.
