Nineteen-year-old Chicago-based producer, Evan Ireland, takes a lean from the upbeat tracks on 2012’s Ten Songs About The Last Six Months and keeps it upbeat for the EP, Kept. Vocal passages and samples are minimal and pitch-affected as low, dark-sounding chords and layers of tape hiss float atop the programmed beats like spirit guides. Fans of Burial will definitely connect with this EP. In a statement for the Kept EP, Evan says he made the record for people to dance and “give in to this primal urge”. While you’ll no doubt be swaying vigorously with the tracks, it’s the song, “Nancy Knows The Truth”, that’ll give you a nice workout as Evan brings more tribal rhythms and the most harmonies on the record. Kept is available via Bandcamp, Spotify, and iTunes.
