It’s time for our Holiday Memories Q&A for 2013, and this year I’m focusing on the various producers, DJ, beatmakers based in Texas. Our series begins with Shakira Pierce aka DJ Night Nurse, CEO and Founder of DropNitDeep Productions based in Dallas, TX. She has a love for Afro-House, Techno, Sexy Dubstep and more. Take a listen to one of her DJ sets after the interview below.
What your family/friends tradition for holidays at the end of the year? If you don’t have a tradition, what was one of your most memorable and fun holiday gatherings (around that same time)?
My family and I make it a point to experiment with non-traditional holiday dishes like fried coconut shrimp and other interesting but tasty dinner delights!
Name a quintessential holiday recording for this time year and tell why that is such a special recording for you/your family?
Our favorite recording is the O’jays’ version of “Silent Night”. Christmas is my mother’s favorite holiday and as kids we would watch our mom bless our holidays year after year with such soulful love energy & this song would be playing in the background reminding me of her sacrifice to see us happy & enjoying her wonderful food.
Any new books/e-books or films that you’re looking forward this holiday?
Yes, I can not wait for Season 3 of Game of Thrones to drop!
Looking back through this year, what were some of your favorite performances of your own music?
Of course, I am insanely blessed to be apart of any show but the most memorable highlight of 2013 is being apart of the opening supportive talent for the legendary Frankie Knuckles (Groove Loves Melody mentioned this, too!). This man ushered in the era of house music in the late 70s and his contributions to the music industry is amazing! I got the opportunity to sit, talk, hug and adore one of my musical heroes whoch still has me in awe to date!
What’s on tap for your in the first three months of 2014?
You can expect to see more creative inspired events for 2014 produced by DropNitDeep Presents. We have some amazing talent lined up to play at our weekly called The Deep held in The Basement @ The Travis every Friday.
As far as monthly events, FreeBass Live Multi Genre art & dance party experience held @ Sandaga 813 and ElectroSmoke held @ the Green Elephant.
If 2013 will remembered for one thing, if would be_______.
Well, certainly there are way too many to name but if I had to make a choice, it would be two things!
1. Stepping out on faith and starting my own business event productions company DJ Night Nurse Ent. Group, L.L.C. aka DropNitDeep Presents.
2. The birth of my beautiful & brilliant grandson Jayce Oliver whom I’m absolutely in love with.
